Destination Wedding at Villa Gamberaia, Tuscany

Breakfast in a Fairytale Villa near Florence

In Italy all the good stories start with a cup of espresso. But all the best stories start with a cup of espresso in a magnificent ancient villa and that of Jessica and Jonathan is certainly one of the greatest. For their fairytale destination wedding, this lovely couple chose one of Tuscany’s most exclusive properties: the highly celebrated Villa Gamberaia. This historically 17th century villa is just a thirteen-minute drive from the center of Florence, very close to Fiesole. I have lived and worked as a photographer in Tuscany for many years and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that Fiesole is the most enchanting place among the thousands of treasures that this region holds. A real pearl among jewels, as well as perfect location to celebrate a wedding.

I do not hide that my dream is to be able to one day celebrate here my wedding too. An enchanted village perched on a lush hillside overlooking Arno valley.

Wedding at Villa Gamberaia: moments that last forever

The cups of espresso were soon followed by goblets of delicious prosecco. Not caring about the pouring rain, all the hundred guests enjoyed the preparation period: the charming groom in the company of his excited brother and his many friends, the chic style bride with of her sister, her mother and all witnesses. As soon as it stopped raining and everyone was ready, we moved into the typical “Italian gardens” that surround the villa, the real flagship of the entire estate. The design of the gardens has been studied and celebrated over the centuries by historians of architecture, landscape architects and, of course by photographers from all over the world. Walking through its tree-lined avenues is just like a daydream.

This destination wedding at Villa Gamberaia was a continuous succession of emotions, but the ‘first look’ allows me to capture the couple together perhaps in the most touching and meaningful moment. There’s nothing like the groom seeing his bride for the first time in a wedding dress with the light of love shining in their eyes. That was just magic, a magic that a skilled photographer cannot miss out. Just long enough to catch the intimacy of the moment that it’s already welcome cocktail time! And I must confess that I was impressed by the elegance of all the guests: everyone wearing high fashion outfits, in perfect Italian style.

Emotions at Villa Gamberaia

Jennifer and Jonathan had their wedding ceremony behind the villa, in a “grotto”, a typical Italian artificial cave filled with white and pink flowers. It was simple enough but at the same time genuine and heartfelt, brilliantly officiated by one of their closest friend, whose speech everyone barely managed to hold back the tears. But his was just the first of many speeches for all tastes, both moving and funny, that have followed one another throughout the evening. An intense and exciting wedding evening at Villa Gamberaia, in which a lavish aperitif was followed first by dinner — obviously faithful to the most authentic Italian tradition — and then by the real party, with wild dances in the courtyard.

The crescendo of emotions was marked by the setting of the warm August sun, which faded until it exploded into a breathtaking sunset over Florence and the surrounding hills. Nothing better for a photographer! Of course, the immense amount of romance that filled the air around us that day is certainly beyond words. But I hope that my shots can succeed where words cannot, and echo for eternity just like the love that Jessica and Jonathan feel for each other.

Jewish Wedding at Borgo Stomennano, Tuscany

Waking up in a Tuscan dream: Borgo Stomennano

I’ll never forget that day: it’s early morning, a beautiful June morning, the first warm rays of sunshine flood the countryside with a gentle numbness and the leaves of grass shine like golden pearls. The air is thin and some scattered clouds are gathering above us.

It’s hard to describe what a beautiful and magical place Borgo Stomennano is. A breathless location in the heart of Tuscany, located in the province of Siena, very close to the medieval fortress of Monteriggioni and the towers of San Gimignano. The first impression is terrific! This very special wedding venue takes us a step back in time thanks to its 17th century style and traditional Italian elegance. The old charm of the villa is still intact, with its decadent and melancholic energy and magnificence, but fully restored and with the comfort of the present time.

The main gate is approached by a long driveway of majestic cypress trees. A huge Italian style garden with fountains enriches this estate with an elegant rustic-chic flavor. Blooming jasmine climbs up the facades surrounding the old windows and infuses all around an ecstatic scent. The villa is a tiny village surrounded by olive groves and woodland with its farmhouses, wine cellars, olive oil mills, carpenter stables, a small church located beyond the villa.

Swimming pool, whiskey and eagerly awaiting

In front of me, in such an authentic and timeless Tuscan vibe, a lovely and elegant Jewish couple shows the world the miracle of eternal love. Gabriella and Simon are ready to live the sweetest day of their lives. Emotions start right from the first moments. The atmosphere is full of waiting and everything around us is full of magic. This wedding at Borgo Stomennano begins with relatives and friends enjoying the infinity pool with the breathtaking background made by the Tuscan hills and the villa’s vineyards. During the preparation period, participants, all in amazingly stylish clothes, take the edge off by tasting fine whiskey.

Wedding at Borgo Stomennano: Old traditions and new miracles

Before the ceremony, the Simon approaches Gabriella for the Bedeken, or veiling. He looks at her and then veils her face. It’s a moment of strong spirituality and emotions flow on the skin. But the most important part of the wedding ceremony takes place under the Chuppah. Under its covering, Gabriella and Simon become one. The true miracle? That is exactly what happens before my eyes and my camera. Sheets filter the sunlight to create stunning portraits. So perfect! But the most genuine and exciting part of the wedding certainly is what happens next. Guests link hands and dance in a circle with or around the bride and groom. Family members of all ages can enjoy the fun and joyous tradition of the Hora dance.

Gabriella and Simon’s wedding at Borgo Stomennano is filled with so many special and unique moments and with so many nuances and elements that it’s hard to choose the best. But I’m sure that their love, so passionate and candid at the same time, is what I will always carry with me fixed in my memory and in my shots. I really left a piece of my heart there!

Wedding at Castello di Velona, Tuscany

Imagine a destination wedding at Velona Castle!

Imagine: an old castle magically suspended between hills and open terraces, which overlooks a peaceful and charming landscape of olive trees and endless vineyards. Dream: it’s up in the morning and on the downs little white clouds like gamboling lambs; the light is warm, cozy, delicate, a “world-filling, eye-kissing, heart-sweetening light!” Close your eyes: a young couple, beautiful as to take your breath away, perfect blend of elegance and passion, kisses each other surrounded by ancient walls and high cypresses. Breathe. Now, open your eyes and realize: that’s not just a fairy tale, that’s a true story! That was exactly Avery and Carl’s wedding day; that was exactly the most memorable day of their lives.

Castello di Velona: A thousand-year-old emotion

In Velona castle — an authentic pearl in the heart of Tuscany, set on a hilltop in the Southern Tip of Montalcino — Avery e Carl swore eternal love to each other and witnessed their “I do’s”. Every moment of this stunning wedding in Castello di Velona, from beginning to end, was a pleasure to capture. On a typical Tuscan spring morning, their wedding day began at the monumental upper part of the Castle, in rooms with breath-taking views on Brunello vineyards in Val d’Orcia, where they started to get ready. In the meantime their closest friends and relatives enjoyed the natural thermal pools and Spa located in the lower wing of the castle. It was really fun and relaxed.

Later in the wedding day, when everyone was ready, we all made our way towards the typical “Italian gardens” at the foot of the castle to be a part of one of the most meaningful ceremonies and emotional speech I’ve photographed. The choice of taking some black and white shots aims to express all the intimacy of the moment and its holiness. None of those present held back with the emotion they felt: there was no shortage of happy tears, laughter and beautiful words. I can testify that the love of their family and friends for them is as great and true as the love that Avery and Carl feel for each other. What I try to express in the shots is exactly such a priceless feeling, which I had the good fortune to be a witness to.

Eat Dance Love in the Tuscan countryside

After the touching ceremony, a traditional Italian dinner was served. With three restaurants and its own production of Brunello Wine and Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, Castello di Velona is ideal for enjoying the best of Italian food and wine culture. Sophisticated and delightful flavors made their experience in Tuscany unforgettable. Last but not least, after some incredible and so romantic moments an amazing party and wild dances started till late at night. This wedding in Castello di Velona was a pleasure to take part in. Simply being around Avery and Carl was such a positive experience, cause they’re the kind of people that give out nothing but good energy and good vibes. I feel thankful to know these guys, to have shared so many beautiful moments with them and to have

Destination Wedding at Masseria Potenti, Apulia

A Timeless wedding in Apulia at Masseria Potenti

Seemingly situated in the middle of nowhere, Masseria Potenti is lost in time. Once through the great iron gates that guard this centuries-old walled farm, guests forget the outside world and unwind in the total peace and quiet that surrounds this very special place. The ideal time to get to this corner of Apulia is that on sunset, when the dazzling white of the buildings takes on shades of pink. Masseria Potenti is a testimony of the Apulia countryside in full respect of nature and sustainability. The slow-placed villages near the Masseria boast a stunning landscape, deep-blue seas, century of history and are blissfully isolated from the 21st century. Emma and Dan spent a wonderful few days before their destination wedding on Masseria Potenti.

This couple was looking for a place out of our time where you can share unforgettable days with people they love. A place where you don’t feel like a guest but part of a big family. A place where you can abandon the frenzy of their days and where you can find yourself. Masseria Potenti was their ideal place. The days were spent relaxing between a reading, a swim in the pool and the fabulous homemade pasta. The day of their destination wedding in Masseria Potenti finally arrived and I can’t wait to document their love story.
